Dry Plateau is produced by Yangling Agricultural Science Media Group and Agricultural Science and Technology News Media Co., Ltd. It obtained its public screening license in August 2024. Adapted from the reportage Weibei Plateau: Memories of a Man by Chen Zhongshi and Tian Changshan, the film features Li Like, an expert in dryland agriculture, as its prototype and won the Best Feature Film Award at the 4th Shaanxi Film Awards.
Set in the 1980s, the movie tells the story of Li Like. He resigned from his post as vice president of Shaanxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences and moved his whole family to Heyang in the Weibei Dry Plateau to conduct dryland agricultural experiments. He promoted the dryland farming technique "boosting root growth with phosphorus and regulating water uptake through roots". Overcoming numerous hardships, he raised local wheat yield from less than 50 kilograms per mu to over 400 kilograms per mu, adding 800 million kilograms of wheat output for Shaanxi Province. With simple and realistic shots, the film depicts his lifelong devotion to feeding local villagers and farming on the loess land, vividly interpreting the scientists’ spirit of "writing papers on the land".
